A New Gaga Era Is Upon Us

Abracadabra music video

A new era of Gaga is in the works, and she’s closer to dropping Mayhem—literally.

After the unexpected release of her new song "Abracadabra", and as the disease was anticipated, we are officially heading toward the darker side of Gaga. It’s as if The Fame Monster, Born This Way, and Chromatica had a baby, and a new alter ego was born—one who just wrecks everything, is unapologetic, and completely in control of her life.

Likewise, fashion has to marry that vision, and she’s been delivering small sips of her style transformation.

Wearing Vivienne Westwood at the Grammys was a fantastic reference, and she naturally did it because that Westwood aura goes beyond punk; it has become gore to the core.

The new Gaga is also an acculturated, cynical intellectual, so it makes sense that Alessandro Michele loves her. I actually expected her to come out wearing the new Valentino sooner or later—like in that Elle cover—and seeing her also wear the brand at the Grammys is huge proof for all the petty people who were saying Alessandro’s vision wouldn’t work. This is Gaga-approved now.

Elle Magazine did a fantastic job styling her, putting her in Issey Miyake because, despite the brand’s calming nature, it’s also chaotic. Even more chaotic? I think we will start seeing more of Gaga wearing Rick Owens.

This new Gaga is a renaissance for the remains of what we, little monsters, like to call serious pop music. So in line with that, I’m really hoping to see Gaga wear more disruptive, dark, nostalgic brands like Dilara Findikoglu, Ann Demeulemeester, and, why not, some couture Gaurav Gupta.

Nicola Formichetti, in you we trust. I cannot wait to see what Gaga will wear next.
